Wolf Oschatz.". Lower right inscribed by the artist's hand: "Verführung.". Date: c. 1890 Description: One is reminded of the famous depictions of the "Temptation of St Anthony", which have been executed in large numbers since the Gothic period by renowned artists such as Hieronymus Bosch, Martin Schongauer and Matthias Grünewald, and later by Salvator Rosa, Max Beckmann, Max Ernst and Salvador Dali. The pious monk in religious contemplation is not even tempted by the beauty sitting directly in front of him and gently touching the person praying. The saint's gaze is fixed on the large cross and renounces all temptation in its vicinity.
