Date: 1853 Description: In the improvised dry dock on the coast of the sea near Bordeaux, a large sailing ship lies on its side and is keel hauled. Instead of the punishment of "keelhauling", which has long been customary in seafaring, this refers to the intensive cleaning of the underwater hull. Over time, the hull of the wooden sailing ships became clogged with all kinds of shells, which impaired the speed of the hull as it glided through the water. Here you can clearly see the group of men cleaning the hull of the ship. Keywords: seafaring, navy, sailing ship, dry dock, cleaning, keelhauling, 19th century, Realism, Seafaring, France, Size: Paper: 12,0 cm x 18,2 cm (4,7 x 7,2 in) Condition: Rather good condition. The sheet is discoloured and pale foxing due to its age.
