Description

Extendable dining table. Denmark, 1960s. Rosewood. Measurements: 120 x 80 x 76 cm (closed); 212 x 80 x 76 x 76 cm (open); 165 x 80 x 76 cm (open with wings). Dining table of Danish design of the sixties entirely made of rosewood, chosen for the warmth of its tone and the beauty of its grain. The table has a rectangular top, and under it, there are two lateral wings that allow to extend its surface. The legs are simple and stylized, narrower towards the base, as is usual in the design of furniture of the period. The legs join cleanly with the tabletop, which is smooth and unadorned, again with beautiful natural veining. It presents a structure of refined lines, softened by simple contours, which give the forms a certain organic aspect without renouncing the expressive power of the geometry. This formal conception will be characteristic of Scandinavian design in the central decades of the twentieth century, as well as the appreciation of wood in its natural state, without paint, carvings or applications that detract from it as a noble material.
