Description

PIERLUIGI SPADOLINI (Florence, 1922-2000). Coffee table, 1970s. Marble. It has slight damage consistent with use and age. Measurements: 40 x 202 x 79 cm. This table presents a light design, with geometric roots and clean straight lines, softened by curved angles, typical of the Italian design of the 70s. It consists of a rectangular top with a convex interior and sturdy T-shaped legs. Italian architect and designer, Pierluigi Spadolini was the brother of politician Giovani Spadolini, several times Minister of the Republic and Head of Government in 1981 and 1982. He was one of the leading experts in the field of industrialized construction, module design, yacht and panel construction in architecture. In 1962 he joined the faculty of the ISIA in Florence directed by Angelo Maria Landi. Among his best known works we can mention the Headquarters of La Nazione (1961 - 1965), the Palazzo dei Congressi in Florence (1974), the Spadolini Pavilion in the Fortezza da Basso (1974 - 1976) - which takes his name - and the Palace of Justice in Turin (1994-1998).
