Description

Chandelier by František Vizner for Skrdlovice, 1960s. In Bohemian crystal. Small bump in the lower area. Needs revision. It does not work. Measurements: 33 x 12 x 12 cm. František Vízner was an outstanding minimalist of Czech glass art, whose career spanned some fifty years. He trained at the Specialized Glass Schools of Nový Bor and Železný Brod and at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. His graduation project in 1962, which explored gently rounded cubes and rectangles, set the course of his career. He first worked in the commercial glassware industry of Škrdlovice, where his designs of simple shapes and precise techniques were ideal for the production of pressed glass. In 1977, he founded his own studio and achieved international recognition, exhibiting in Paris, Zurich, Essen, Vienna and New York. Vízner is known for his bowls with a single central spout and his technique of cutting, piercing and working glass to create sensuous contours and matte finishes. Throughout his career, he maintained a commitment to pure form and craftsmanship, achieving a sensitive manipulation of light and color. His work is unmistakable for its quality and precision. Needs revision. Does not work.
