AN 18TH CENTURY GOLD AND ENAMEL SNUFF BOX Hanau, c.1795, rectangular with cut corners, the lid set with an enamel panel decorated with a young couple philandering in a clearing in the forest, two crones peeking at them from behind ruined columns to the right, on opaque black enamel ground, within fine white enamel rims and pale blue enamel and gold borders, the sides enamelled in plain black, cornflower blue and opaque white, the dividers decorated with vases, the base similarly decorated, sunray and crossed S marks, the rim numbered 2883, later struck M3. 8.6cm long, 79 grams
