A BLUE AND WHITE ‘ROMANCE OF THE WESTERN CHAMBER’ PORCELAIN DISH, 18TH CENTURY A BLUE AND WHITE ‘ROMANCE OF THE WESTERN CHAMBER’ PORCELAIN DISH, 18TH CENTURY China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Finely potted with short walls and slanted rims, painted in underglaze blue depicting a gentleman and a court lady seated on the terrace of a pavilion, the rims detailed with a wide band of diaper patterns alternating with cartouches of peaches. The reverse with rocky landscapes and two boats. The recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark within a double circle. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1970 and has remained in the family ever since. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, light surface scratches, and firing flaws including dark spots and pitting. Weight: 332 g Dimensions: Diameter 22.9 cm
