A BLUE AND WHITE ‘BAJIXIANG AND CRANES’ KLAPMUTS PORCELAIN BOWL, 18TH CENTURY A BLUE AND WHITE ‘BAJIXIANG AND CRANES’ KLAPMUTS PORCELAIN BOWL, 18TH CENTURY China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Finely potted, the rounded walls rising to an everted rim, supported on a straight foot, painted to the exterior in underglaze blue with cranes and peaches above crashing waves, the rim decorated with four of the eight Daoist emblems (bajixiang). The interior with a crane carrying a peach sprig in his beak, enclosed by double lines, the rims framed by swirling clouds above a blue ground. The recessed base with an underglaze blue mark within double lines. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1970 and has remained in the family ever since. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, two hairlines to the upper rim, and a small crack to the foot ring, with firing flaws including pitting and dark spots.
