TWO BLUE AND WHITE ‘FOUR HORSES’ PORCELAIN BOWLS, 17TH CENTURY TWO BLUE AND WHITE ‘FOUR HORSES’ PORCELAIN BOWLS, 17TH CENTURY China, late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) to early Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Each expressively painted in underglaze blue, the interior with four striding horses encircling a central motif, the upper rims framed with a blue line to the interior and exterior. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1970 and has remained in the family ever since. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, light surface scratches, few minuscule losses, and firing flaws including fritting, dark spots, little kiln grit, and minor pitting. One dish with a hairline, the other with three hairlines. Weight: 192 g and 151 g Dimensions: Diameter 13.6 cm and 14.2 cm
