A ‘SWATOW’ PORCELAIN BOWL AND CHARGER, MING OR LATER A ‘SWATOW’ PORCELAIN BOWL AND CHARGER, MING OR LATER China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), or later. The shallow charger finely painted in red, green, black and turquoise enamels with a bird and a butterfly in flight between flower heads and foliage, encircled by a border with two dragons pursuing flaming pearls amid clouds, flowers, leaves and rockwork, and with a geometric patterned band around the rim. The bowl similarly decorated in red, green, black and turquoise with alternating birds and lotus below a band of birds within cartouches; the interior with stylized designs. Provenance: From a good European collection. Condition: Good condition with signs of wear, rubbing to the enamels, light surface scratches, glaze flaking, and firing flaws including fritting, warping, uneven glazing, and kiln grit. The charger with few hairlines and small chips to the upper rim.
