AN ARCHAISTIC SPINACH-GREEN JADE VASE AND COVER, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC AN ARCHAISTIC SPINACH-GREEN JADE VASE AND COVER, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC China, c. 1920s. Of flattened baluster form, the body carved with taotie masks above a lappet border, the neck incised with stiff leaves below a band of key-fret at the rim, and flanked by beast mask handles suspending loose rings. The cover decorated with further taotie masks and surmounted by a wrathful looking Buddhis lion. The stone is of a fine and pure spinach green tone with scattered black specks and patches. Provenance: Hungarian private collection. The interior of the base and cover with old collector’s labels. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, a tiny nick to the Buddhist lion’s eyebrow, and minor nibbling to the inner rims. The stone with natural fissures.
