A JADE CARVING OF A CHILONG, EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY A JADE CARVING OF A CHILONG, EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY China, 770-221 BC. Finely carved, the recumbent chilong turning its head over its body, its legs tucked underneath his slender body. His mouth carved open, forming the loop for suspension, his ears ruyi-shaped, and his body covered in archaic C-scrolls. The semi-translucent jade of a gray hue with dark gray inclusions, russet and icy veining, and some calcification. Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age, with old wear. Signs of weathering and erosion, and microscopic nibbling to edges. Provenance: Canadian private collection. Weight: 23.3 g Dimensions: Length 6.2 cm
