The seated camel is cast with its head upturned and ears pricked. The rider, wearing a conical hat, sits atop two saddlebags, looking back to the sky with an open mouth and shielding his eyes from the sunlight, his dress is dramatically swept by the wind. The piece is finely inlaid with gold, silver, and precious stones. The interior is hollow. Provenance: From a Spanish collection, acquired on the Spanish antiquities market in 2008. This lot is accompanied by a copy of an expertise by Gestión De Proyectos, this copy will be handled to the winning bidder. Condition: Good condition with wear, signs of weathering and erosion, casting flaws, small nicks, and the inlays added later. With malachite encrustations. Scientific Analysis Report: A thermoluminescence analysis report issued by the “Universidad Autonoma de Madrid” 19 January 2008, report number: 50018A, sets the firing date of the ceramic material extracted from the figurine inside, supposedly belonging to the clay mould used in the foundry process, to the Tang dynasty, a copy of the report, accompanies this lot.
