A BRONZE ‘RHINOCEROS’ BELT HOOK, HAN DYNASTY A BRONZE ‘RHINOCEROS’ BELT HOOK, HAN DYNASTY China, presumably Han Dynasty, 202 BC to 220 AD, the silver inlays dating to the 20 th century. The belt hook thickly cast in the form of a rhinoceros, its front horn curling back over its pricked-up ears, the body inlaid in silver wire. The hook formed by an extension of the animal’s snout. The underside with a circular button. With a fitted display stand. Provenance: Viennese private collection. Condition: Good condition with age-related wear. Signs of weathering and erosions, small nicks, small losses to inlays, and encrustations. With some cuprite and malachite encrustations. Weight: 139.9 g Dimensions: Length 13.2 cm
