A GROUP OF TWO REPOUSSÉ RITUAL TEA POTS, c. 1900s A GROUP OF TWO REPOUSSÉ RITUAL TEA POTS, c. 1900s Tibet, late 19th to early 20th century. Each of tapering form, the first a silvered metal ritual pot rising from a flat base and surmounted by a domed cover with a bud finial, flanked by a curved spout issuing from the jaws of a horned makara and the handle in the form of a two-horned beast, suspending a chain connected to the lid. The body embossed and chased with bands of scrolling foliage interspersed with Buddhist motifs, all between lappet and ruyi head borders. The second a libation a mixed metal jug raised on a tall flaring foot cast with overlapping petals and surmounted by a tapering, narrow neck with a cupped mouth topped by a cover which is attached to the handle by a chain. The handle and spout are chased in the form of fierce Makara beasts with sharp fangs and scales, the body is decorated on either side with a petal form panel enclosing a seated monk surrounded by animals, attendants, deities, and sacred Buddhist symbols, surrounded by bands of foliate motifs and lappet borders. Provenance: A private collection in Vienna, Austria. Condition: Good condition with minor wear and manufacturing irregularities.
