Description

Spanish-Filipino school, late XVII-early XVIII century. "Saint". Polychrome wood carving. It shows wear, faults and losses. Measurements: 39 x 11 x 10 cm. Sculpture in carved wood of late-baroque period and Hispano-Filipino school. It is a devotional figure that could represent a Jesuit missionary. He has a tonsured head and wears a tunic whose sumptuousness is intuited by the chiseled notches that emulate embroidery. He carries the Gospels under his left arm. The way of resolving the folds and the hairstyle denotes a workmanship characteristic of Christian art as it developed in the workshops of the Philippines.
