A NECKLACE WITH 33 RAW GARNET BEADS, c. 10TH – 12TH CENTURY OR EARLIER A NECKLACE WITH 33 RAW GARNET BEADS, c. 10TH – 12TH CENTURY OR EARLIER Persia, c. 10th – 12th century or earlier, the metal elements later. The necklace comprising 33 carnelian beads alternating with small globular metal beads and joined by a metal chain. The carnelian beads all slightly different in size and shape, carved from semi-translucent garnet of a dark red and purple color. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, few small nicks and notches, and one bead chipped. The stone with natural imperfections. Weight: 130 g Dimensions: Length ca. 80 cm (the necklace), 1.1.- 2.2 cm (the beads)
