A SOUTHEAST ASIAN SERPENTINE ‘FROG’ TALISMAN, 3RD – 6TH CENTURY A SOUTHEAST ASIAN SERPENTINE ‘FROG’ TALISMAN, 3RD – 6TH CENTURY Southeast Asia, c. 3 rd - 6 th century. Carved as a crouching frog, its head slightly raised, with large protruding eyes and incised feet. The stone of an appealing light green tone with dark green veining. Central drilling showing ancient toolmarks and allowing for suspension as a pendant. Condition: Good condition with minor wear and a small chip to one foot. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
