Of different sizes and shapes, including 52 tubular beads, 163 globular beads, and 24 quadrangular beads, all etched with various distinctive geometric patterns. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe. Condition: Very good condition with expected age-related wear, some with minor nicks. One tubular bead chipped. Weight: 956 g (total) Dimensions: Length ca. 1 cm – 5 cm Also known as 'buried thunder-bolt beads', these beads are made of petrified wood, which has turned to stone as result of a particular type of fossilization - the trees or tree like plants having completely transitioned to stone by a process of permineralization, all the organic material transforming to mineral.
