A GILT LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, LATE 19TH CENTURY A GILT LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, LATE 19TH CENTURY Burma. Seated in dhyanasana on a tiered pedestal, his right hand lowered in bhumisparsha mudra, the left held in dhyana mudra above his lap, dressed in tight-fitting robes elaborately carved with geometric designs. The serene face with heavy-lidded eyes, gracefully arched brows, and slender lips forming a benevolent smile, flanked by elongated earlobes, the hair arranged in tight spikes over the ushnisha, and surmounted by a separately carved ketumala. The back of the pedestal with an opening. Provenance: Danish private collection, since 1972. Condition: Good condition with some wear, expected age cracks, minuscule losses to the base, tiny nicks, light scratches, and rubbing to gilt. The left hand with a chip.
