Each ehon (picture book) sewn together and containing various illustrations. The first five albums comprise Bairei’s three volume set titled Bairei hyakucho gafu (Bairei's Drawing-book of One Hundred Birds). This set, dated 1881, consists of: two copies of Vol. 1, Vol 2, Vol. 2 (pt. 2), and Vol. 3. The album illustrates various types of birds in their natural habitat. Dimensions ca. 24.4 x 17.4 (each) The sixth album, titled Ehon inaka no tsuki (Picture book, Moon in the Countryside), dated 1889, illustrates a fine selection of birds, fish, and animals. With an English index, this book was clearly marketed to attract foreigners as well as Japanese collectors. Dimensions: 24.2 x 16.5 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and bright colors. Some fading, minor stains, wear to the covers, loose threads with some associated loose pages. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
