Mounted as a hanging scroll on a silk brocade frame with stag antler handles. Depicting an elegantly dressed woman reading a book resting on a vessel. Inscriptions: Signed ‘Tsunenobu hitsu’ 常信筆 with seal. One label to the back, ‘collection of Shindo […], no. 113’ 進藤九十九軒蔵品 百十三號 . Image SIZE 88.5 x 51 cm, SIZE incl. mounting 179 x 61.5 cm Condition: Wear, creasing, folds, soiling, and slight browning of paper. Wormholes with associated repairs. The mounting with wear and age. Kano Tsunenobu (1636-1713) was a Japanese painter of the Kano school. He first studied under his father, Kano Naonobu, and then his uncle, Kano Tan'yu, after his father's death. He became a master painter and succeeded his uncle Tan'yu as head of the Kano school in 1674.
