Mounted as a hanging scroll on a silk brocade frame with wooden handles. Depicting two boys gleefully reaching for the black cat in a travelling monk’s hand. The monk with an oi backpack and straw hat strewn to his back. Inscriptions: Signed ‘Hanabusa Itcho’ 英一蝶 with seal. Image SIZE 98.5 x 37.5 cm, SIZE incl. mounting 186 x 50 cm Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and slight browning of paper. Few creases, miniscule losses, and minor stains. Hanabusa Itcho (1652-1724) was a Japanese painter born in Osaka, calligrapher, and haiku poet. He originally trained in the Kano style, under Kanō Yasunobu, but ultimately rejected that style and became a literati (bunjin).
