Mounted as a hanging scroll on a silk brocade frame with stag antler handles. Depicting a lone fisherman merrily walking with his fishing rod, a large fish suspended on his line. Inscriptions: Signed ‘Masunobu hitsu’ 益信筆 with seal. Image SIZE 97 x 26.5 cm, SIZE incl. mounting 171 x 37 cm Condition: Presenting well, with minor wear and slight browning of paper. Some creasing, folds, tiny holes, minor foxing, and few stains. The mounting with traces of wear and age; few tiny holes Kano Masanobu (1434-1530) was a Japanese painter. He was the chief painter of the Ashikaga shogunate and is generally considered the founder of the Kanō school of painting. Kano Masanobu specialized in Zen paintings as well as elaborate paintings of Buddhist deities and Bodhisattvas.
