UGO ATTARDI (Genoa, 1923 - Rome, 2006). "Soldier", 2000. Bronze sculpture. Signed and dated on the right side of the base. Wooden base. Measurements: 40 x 14 x 50 cm (figure); 3 x 16 x 32 cm (base). Ugo Attardi was a painter, sculptor and writer trained at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo. In 1945 he moved to Rome, where he joined the Forma 1 movement together with other artists such as Carla Accardi, Pietro Consagra, Piero Dorazio, Mino Guerrini, Concetto Maugeri, Achille Perilli, Antonio Sanfilippo and Giulio Turcato, with an abstract orientation. However, he developed divergent visions as he matured from the rest of the group. In 1948 he participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts (V National Art Quadrennial) in Rome. In the early fifties he oriented his art towards expressionism. His sculpture of Ulysses is now permanently installed in Battery Park in New York. In 1952 and 1954 he was invited to the XXVI and XXVII Venice Biennale. In the early 1960s he participated in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. In 1986 and 1987 he exhibited at the ICAF in London and at the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Milan. He has received numerous awards for his artistic merits and for having spread and promoted Italian genius and creativity throughout the world.
