A FINE SET OF WILLIAM ANGUS CUTLERY WITH ANTLER HANDLES DEPICTING MONKEYS A FINE SET OF WILLIAM ANGUS CUTLERY WITH ANTLER HANDLES DEPICTING MONKEYS Japan, early Meiji period (1868-1912) and Liverpool, England, late Victorian era (1837-1901) Comprising five pieces: two knives, a sharpening steel, and a pair of two-pronged meat forks, each with a handle carved from a tubular section of antler, depicting monkeys wearing robes atop rocky outcrops, one observing bats emerging from their caves, another gripping an owl by its wing, and the others teasing a snake with a slug. The blades stamped with the English company’s signature and address ‘W. Angus 27 & 29 Lord St, Liverpool’. LENGTH 36.6 (longest) Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, natural flaws to the stag antler carvings, and slight tarnishing to the blades. With the original fitted box with a silk interior bearing the name of the maker, ‘William Angus, Jeweler and Silversmith, 27 & 29 Lord Street, Liverpool.’ William Angus was a jeweler and silversmith in Liverpool, England. His company was renamed in 1894 ‘William Angus & Sons.’
