Ɏ AN IVORY OKIMONO OF A FISHERMAN AND BOY Ɏ AN IVORY OKIMONO OF A FISHERMAN AND BOY Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) The fisherman standing with his feet slightly apart as he gently boosts a turtle clambering over his shoulder, while the small boy crouching to his feet plays with a crab tied to a string. Each figure is dressed in a voluminous robe incised with various patterns. HEIGHT 12 cm Condition: With wear and natural imperfections. Minor touchups between the fisherman’s legs. The boy’s foot partially lost. Repairs and restoration to the feet of the fisherman. Overall presenting well. Provenance: Collection Gabor Orszagh, Budapest, Hungary. Trade Certificate: In accordance with new EU regulations that went into effect in January 2022, we have applied for a certificate to sell this item within the EU. We expect the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology to issue the certificate in 4-8 weeks. The item can only be shipped / handed over once the certificate has been issued. He is dressed in the typical robes of a fisherman, a straw hat, and has a fishing basket suspended from his belt next to a tobacco pouch. He stands on the edge of a bank, which is nestled with the stump of a tree and small pine sprouts. The underside has a rectangular sunken reserve, possibly once holding the signature tablet.
