Ɏ CHIKAYOSHI: AN IVORY OKIMONO OF A GEISHA WITH PUPPY Ɏ CHIKAYOSHI: AN IVORY OKIMONO OF A GEISHA WITH PUPPY By Chikayoshi, signed Chikayoshi Japan, Tokyo, Meiji period (1868-1912) Finely carved as a geisha dressed in an elaborate long-sleeved kimono with ornate patterns contrasting with scattered blossoms and bamboo leaves. Her left hand raised holding a vessel, the right hand lowered pulling at her hems. She is accompanied by a small Chin dog playing with her kimono. Signed underneath CHIKAYOSHI – a pupil of the Tomochika school. HEIGHT 10 cm Condition: Very good condition with minor wear. Auction comparison: Compare a related ivory okimono by Chikayoshi, dated to the Meiji period, at Christie’s, Japanese Art & Design, 11 May 2011, London, lot 196 (sold for GBP 2,000).
