Ɏ A SIGNED IVORY NETSUKE-OKIMONO OF A SARUMAWASHI (MONKEY TRAINER) WITH MONKEY AND ONI Ɏ A SIGNED IVORY NETSUKE-OKIMONO OF A SARUMAWASHI (MONKEY TRAINER) WITH MONKEY AND ONI Signed Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Finely carved, the monkey trainer seated on a tree stump and smoking his kiseru (pipe), as he watches his monkey fight a small oni, the face of the trainer with satisfied expression, as his monkey throws the small demon off balance. The Sarumawashi wearing loose robes with ornamental designs. Single central himotoshi through the base, beside the signature. LENGTH 5.1 cm Condition: Very good condition with only minor wear. Provenance: Michael Bernstein, New York. Collection Gabor Orszagh, Budapest, Hungary, acquired from the above. Trade Certificate: In accordance with new EU regulations that went into effect in January 2022, we have applied for a certificate to sell this item within the EU. We expect the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology to issue the certificate in 4-8 weeks. The item can only be shipped / handed over once the certificate has been issued. This item contains ivory, rhinoceros horn, tortoise shell, and/or some types of tropical wood and is subject to CITES when exporting outside the EU. It is typically not possible to export such items outside of the EU, including to the UK.
