† A FINE ANTLER RYUSA MANJU NETSUKE DEPICTING A WATER DRAGON EMERGING FROM A MOKUGYO † A FINE ANTLER RYUSA MANJU NETSUKE DEPICTING A WATER DRAGON EMERGING FROM A MOKUGYO School of Ozaki Kokusai (1835-1892), unsigned Japan, Shiba, Tokyo, c.1860-1880 Of oval form, finely carved with a central water dragon, twisting its slender body around as it emerges from a broken mokugyo. The mythical creature’s mouth is carved open, exposing fangs, its prominent Baku-like snout curling downward. The reverse is carved open with a stylized nyoi and hossu (fly whisk). Natural himotoshi. HEIGHT 4.5 cm Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and typical natural flaws to the porous material.
