Ɏ A MARINE IVORY NETSUKE OF A BOY WITH A FAN, MEIJI Ɏ A MARINE IVORY NETSUKE OF A BOY WITH A FAN, MEIJI Unsigned Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) The small netsuke carved as a boy standing with one foot on a drum, wearing loose robes and holding a fan in one hand and a rope in the other. Two himotoshi to the underside. HEIGHT 4.2 cm Condition: With minor wear. The fan’s end and rope with losses. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Ferdinand and Dr. Gudrun Thaler-Szulyovsky, acquired from the above, and thence by descent in the same family. The couple, who had both been practicing law, met in 1967 through their mutual passion for art. Together they built a substantial and diverse art collection over many decades. This item contains ivory, rhinoceros horn, tortoise shell, and/or some types of tropical wood and is subject to CITES when exporting outside the EU. It is typically not possible to export such items outside of the EU, including to the UK. Therefore, after this item has the necessary trade certificate, it can only be shipped within the EU or picked up in our gallery in person.
