Ɏ A FINE TOMOCHIKA SCHOOL IVORY NETSUKE OKIMONO OF A KARAKO IN HOTEI’S TREASURE BAG Ɏ A FINE TOMOCHIKA SCHOOL IVORY NETSUKE OKIMONO OF A KARAKO IN HOTEI’S TREASURE BAG Sealed Tanaka Japan, Edo (Tokyo), late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912) Finely carved as Hotei’s treasure bag on a flat oval base, a laughing Chinese boy peeking through one of the openings and holding a fan. Fine vine decorations on the bag, which usually contain treasures (takaramono). Himotoshi on the underside and sealed TANAKA. LENGTH 5.3 cm Condition: Very good condition with only minor wear. Provenance: British private collection. Zacke, Fine Netsuke, Sagemono & Okimono, 27 April 2019, Vienna, lot 30. Trade Certificate: The trade certificate for the sale of this lot within the EU has been granted (permit number AT 24-B-0146). This item contains ivory, rhinoceros horn, tortoise shell, and/or some types of tropical wood and is subject to CITES when exporting outside the EU.
