A TALL EBONY WOOD NETSUKE OF TEKKAI SENNIN A TALL EBONY WOOD NETSUKE OF TEKKAI SENNIN Japan, late 19 th century, Edo period (1615-1868) The immortal sennin is standing dressed in an artemisia leaf cloak with a large hyotan (double gourd) slung across his back. He is leaning on his cane and grinning. Tekkai Sennin was thought to possess supernatural powers and be capable of leaving his body, sometimes travelling for extended periods. The himotoshi through the backside just underneath the hyotan. HEIGHT 10.4 cm Condition: Very good condition with some minor age-related wear. Provenance: French private collection, acquired at Galerie Zacke.
