A FINE WOOD NETSUKE OF A CLUSTER OF SHIMEJI MUSHROOMS A FINE WOOD NETSUKE OF A CLUSTER OF SHIMEJI MUSHROOMS Unsigned Japan, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely carved as a cluster of five shimeji mushrooms, densely packed together, forming a pleasingly tactile and compact composition, the underside of the netsuke naturalistically carved with roots. Note the contrast between the smoothly polished caps and incised radial gills. Natural himotoshi through one of the stems. HEIGHT 3.5 cm Condition: Good condition with some wear, small nicks to the caps, and two short age cracks, one of which has been plugged. Provenance: Collection Gabor Orszagh, Budapest, Hungary.
