A WOOD NETSUKE OF A LEAPING HARE A WOOD NETSUKE OF A LEAPING HARE Unsigned Japan, 19th century Naturalistically carved as a rabbit (usagi) in mid-jump with the hind legs stretched out and pointed feet, the head turned to one side, and the front legs tucked below the chest, its fur finely incised and the eyes inlaid in horn. Asymmetrical himotoshi through the underside, one generously excavated to accommodate the knot. LENGTH 4.6 cm Condition: Good condition with minor surface wear, light surface scratches, and possibly old restorations to the ears as well as renewed patina.
