HIROMASA: A KOTO TANTO IN KOSHIRAE HIROMASA: A KOTO TANTO IN KOSHIRAE By Hiromasa, signed Soshu ju Hiromasa Japan, c. 1460-1480, Muromachi period (1333-1573) The blade: The sugata is hira-zukuri with iori mune, forged in itame hada with a narrow suguha-notare hamon. Each side of the blade with horimono, depicting Daikoku to one side and a dragon writhing around a vajra-handled ken sword to the other. The nakago with one mekugi-ana, a kuri jiri, and the mei reading Soshu ju HIROMASA – likely the fourth generation. The gold habaki with diagonal file marks and punched decoration. The mounting: The copper tsuba of oval form. The copper fuchi and kashira finely decorated in shakudo hirazogan with butterflies and scroll. The tsuka covered in rayskin and wrapped with dark-blue textile. The copper menuki finely modeled in the form of seabreams with shibuichi-inlaid eyes. The saya lacquered in lustrous roiro. With a registration card noting the signature, nagasa, sori curvature, number of mekugi-ana. NAGASA 26.6 cm, LENGTH 41.8 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and manufacturing irregularities, the blade with minor rust spots and ware.
