A FINE BLACK LACQUER YUKAHON KENDAI (FLOOR LECTERN) A FINE BLACK LACQUER YUKAHON KENDAI (FLOOR LECTERN) Japan, late Meiji (1868-1912) to Taisho period (1912-1926) Comprised of five fitted pieces, a cabinet base supported on bracket feet, two supports, a cross beam, and the reading table. The lectern is decorated with two large tassels hanging from the reading table and is worked in gold and lacquer hiramaki-e and takamaki-e, depicting a large dragon clutching a tama in its three-claw talons amid crashing waves, its bushy brows with mother-of-pearl flakes. The cabinet base with one large drawer. HEIGHT 48.5 cm Condition: Good condition with wear, small nicks, and two large cracks to the sides Museum comparison: Compare a related yukahon kendai in the library collection of Columbia University, accession number 7_2_193_1.
