Description

ADOLPH C. WINTERNITZ (Vienna, 1906-Lima, 1993) and FRANÇOIS MARÉCHAL (France, 1938-2018). "Apocalypse of St. John", 1986. Reproduction of paintings by Adolph c. Winternitz with woodcut interpretation by François Maréchal. It has 22 woodcuts. Copy 32/110. The woodcuts are signed by both artists and justified. Measurements: 56 x 42 x 5 (book); 57 x 41 x 6 cm (box). The text that served as inspiration for the creation of these paintings is a poetic interpretation of the Apocalypse of St. John by Alberto Wagner de Reyna. François Maréchal began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Le Mans and continued under the tutelage of José Manaut, Jules Moses and Dimitri Papageorgiu. Although he began his career in France, he developed most of his work in Spain, where he settled in 1963. In 1991 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Madrid). His figurative work has a symbolist touch where the value of the lyric and the poetic are present. He is known for his illustrative works, among which stand out El bestiario de Pablo Neruda, el Testamento del Quijote de Quevedo and Homenaje a Rembrandt.
