EMILIO POY DALMAU (Madrid, 1876 - 1933). "Garrochistas". Oil on canvas. It has faults and restorations. It has a 19th century frame with faults. Measurements: 31 x 44 cm; 45 x 58 cm (frame). The brushstroke of this work is marked in some areas, while others (spatially the face of the young woman) present a more detailed drawing and related to the academicism of the 19th century. Emilio Poy Dalmau cultivated portraiture and genre themes. He began his training at the San Fernando School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving in Madrid, where his main teachers were Joaquín Araujo and Francisco Padilla. At the age of twenty-six he was awarded a pension in Rome, after winning the public competition with his work "El capuchón negro", a canvas that was praised by the public and critics alike. He participated assiduously in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, where he obtained an honourable mention in 1895 and 1897, third medal in 1901, 1906 and 1908, and second medal in 1910. He taught drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid. Works by Poy Dalmau are kept in the Prado Museum.
