MATÍAS QUETGLAS BENEDET (Ciutadella, Menorca, 1946). "Crying for the death of Ignacio Sanchez Mejias-The cry", 1992. Pastel on paper. Signed and dated in the lower left corner. Measurements: 30 x 40 cm; 48 x 58 cm (frame). Matías Quetglas held his first exhibition, in his native town, when he was only eighteen years old, and shortly after he went to Madrid to study at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, where his teacher was Antonio López. Shortly before finishing his studies he was hired by the Juana Mordó gallery in the same city, with which he collaborated for fifteen years, and since then he has shown his work in Spain, France, Sweden, Germany and Italy. Currently his work is present in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Calcografía Nacional, the Fundación Lorenzana, the Biblioteca Nacional, the Consell Insular de Menorca, the Atheneumin Taidemuseum in Helsinki, the Museo Tiflológico de la ONCE, the d'Arte dello Splendore in Giulianova (Italy), the Casa Solleric, the Chase Manhattan Bank Collection and many others, both public and private.
