The author has endeavored to deal only with matters relating to livestock, based on the customs of Nevers, Bourbonnais and Berry. Covers partially torn, small leather loss on second cover, otherwise a good copy. Also included: MENELET (Jean). Traité des péremptions des instances, by the late Me..., former lawyer at the Dijon Parliament. Revised and enlarged by J.-F. Bidou. Dijon, De Fay, 1750, small in-8, blond shagreened calf, ornate spine, title page, red edges (period binding). Edition based on the manuscript left by the author at his death, revised and enlarged by J.-F. Bidou with observations and various rulings of the Parlement de Bourgogne on the subjects treated. Rubbed and spotted, otherwise a good copy. A set of 2 volumes.

BROSSES DE TOURNAY, THESUT DE VERREY & LE COMPASSEUR DE COURTIVRON. Catalogs and coats of arms of the gentlemen who attended the Estates General of the Duchy of Burgundy, from the year M.D.XLVIII. Until the year M.D.C.LXXXII. Taken from the registers of the Chamber of Nobility. Dijon, Durand, 1760. Large folio, marbled calf, ornate ribbed spine, gilt roulette on the edges. First edition illustrated with a fine vignette, an allegorical frontispiece by Gabriel de Saint-Aubin after Cochin fils decorated with the coats of arms of the principal towns of Burgundy, 36 burin-engraved plates of coats of arms and 6 genealogical tables of the former Kings and Dukes of Burgundy, which are missing from most copies. This handsome work is based on the archives of the Chambre de la Noblesse de Bourgogne. (Saffroy 18968; Quérard IX, 412.) A fine copy bearing the arms of the University of Dijon. Founded in 1722, at the request of the States of Burgundy, it included only a faculty of law. Its patrons were the Duke of Bourbon, then the governors of Burgundy. It was abolished during the French Revolution. (O.H.R. n°1589).

Burgundy - BÉGUILLET (Edme). Histoire des guerres des deux Bourgognes sous les règnes de Louis XIII. et de Louis XIV. Dijon, Defay fils, Paris, Delalain, 1772. 2 volumes in one vol. in-12 marbled basane, spine ribbed and decorated (period binding). Minor rubbing. Ex-libris crossed out on titles. Rare. Successively a lawyer and notary in Dijon in the 18th century, Edme Béguillet, also a Burgundian oenologist and historian, devoted his technical talents to promoting the agrarian and winemaking riches of his region. In particular, his writings contributed to the great debate that had been raging since the 17th century to propose Burgundy wine as an alternative to the wines of Champagne.
