Paris, Marcilly aîné, [1839]. 6 vols. small in-12 (11.3 x 7.1 cm), 31 or 32 pp each, white glossy paper boards, first board decorated with a color engraved vignette surrounded by gilt and embossed fillets and fleurons, smooth mute spines, two-compartment box decorated with gilt and embossed friezes and a color lithographed vignette (Norman costumes) surmounted by the title printed in the center of the cover, scattered foxing, box vignette browned (publisher's boards and box). One of the deluxe copies with color figures. Each volume is adorned with 3 handsome copper-engraved figures, hand-colored at the time, depicting regional costumes, the first glued to the center of the first cover, the other two outside the text. A delightful romantic collection offering a panorama of the French provinces: Alsace and Vendée, Auvergne and Cévennes, Béarn and Languedoc, Brittany, Gascony and Normandy. At the bottom of the box, a subscriber's membership card for the Congrès Scientifique de France for 1864, in the name of M. Léautez. A very fine copy preserved in its superb decorated publisher's box. (Gumuchian, n° 2611)
