Description

Louis Armstrong Autograph Letter Signed ALS signed “Louis Armstrong," and twice within the text as "Satchmo,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 7.25, March 16, 1949. Written from the Hotel Flamingo in Las Vegas, a letter to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thomson, in part: "I am writing you all these few lines, letting you know it was really a pleasure meeting the two of you at the Coliseum in New Orleans Mardi Gras night. My My—what a day. But I really did enjoy myself the whole day. Hollering & waving at everybody. That's why I couldn't talk that night after the parade. And that's the main reason why I did not sing your 'request' for Solitude—etc...it was very sportsmen like, for Tim & Steve, to have still appreciate everything Satchmo played, even though he did not sing their 2 songs. That just couldn't be helped...I am just now getting myself straightened out from that hectic day. But I loved every moment of it. Seeing all of those people beside seeing all of my old friends from years back, when I was just a child. What a memory—huh? Tee hee....Thanks a million for the trouble you both had to go through just to dig ol Satchmo. You both are real swell people." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Armstrong's hand, with a paper loss affecting part of the address.
