Thomas Hughes Autograph Letter Signed English lawyer, judge, politician, and author (1822-1896) most famous for his novel Tom Brown's School Days. ALS signed “Tho. Hughes,” one page, 4.5 x 7.25, January 15, 1873. Handwritten letter to Gen. William Farrar 'Baldy' Smith, in part: "I am sorry you c'd not come today—The Board have asked Sir J. Hay...to meet you & me next week as you suggest: & he has named Wednesday at 2 or Thursday at 12—Will you write at once to Brand which you select. I do hope you will be able to come." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original sales folder from early 20th century antiquarian bookseller Ernest Dressel North.
