Silas Weir Mitchell Autograph Letter Signed Physician and writer (1829-1914) considered to be the 'father of medical neurology,' known for his discovery of causalgia. ALS signed “S. Weir Mitchell,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 6.25, personal letterhead, April 1894. Handwritten letter to Gen. William Farrar 'Baldy' Smith, addressing him as "My dear gallant old fighter." In part: "I never heard of any other conclusion as passable except that you were the man of Brown's Ferry...You were a big war-medicine man—& I guess will be remembered when commissioners are no more heard of." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original sales folder from early 20th century antiquarian bookseller Ernest Dressel North.
