Benjamin Franklin Signed Land Grant as President of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council (1787) Manuscript vellum DS, signed “B. Franklin,” one page, 15.25 x 12.75, October 26, 1787. As president of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council, Franklin issues a land grant to Richard Ivers for “a Certain Tract of Land called ‘Iron Hill’ Situate in Green Township Washington County...Containing Two hundred and fifty six Acres and a quarter.” Signed prominently on the left side by Benjamin Franklin, and countersigned below by Charles Biddle as secretary. The upper left retains the original paper state seal of Pennsylvania. In very good condition, with overall creasing, light soiling, loss to the lower left corner, and minor loss along the intersecting folds; Franklin's signature is clean and unaffected. Accompanied by an engraved portrait bearing a facsimile signature. Franklin issued this document as president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, a position analogous to the modern position of governor.
