August Lange-Brock, Am Stadtrand Early spring view from a garden or park to a few houses under a slightly hazy sky, watercolour on light cardboard, mid 20th century, partly illegibly inscribed "Jenisch Park" in the lower area, stamped "Aug. Lange-Brock Nachlaß" and various notations on the reverse of the mount, somewhat yellowed and slightly stained in the upper area, mount with minor conservation defects, mount size approx. 29.5 x 41.5 cm. Artist info: German painter. Painter (1891 Hamburg - 1979 Hamburg), 1907-13 attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Hamburg, 1914-18 worked as a war draughtsman in the Balkans, 1918-19 master student of Arthur Illes, from 1921 worked at the Bauhaus, 1924-26 stage designer at the Deutsches Theater under Max Reinhardt, 1927-30 studied at the University of Hamburg to become a commercial teacher, from 1930 teacher of painting at the Gewerbeschule in Hamburg, from 1943, together with Heinrich Stegemann, documentation of the destroyed Hamburg, from 1945 turned to non-representational painting, source: Internet.
