Antique English Georgian Mother of Pearl Inlaid Tortoise Shell Tea Caddy, Mid 19th Century Description: An English tortoise shell tea caddy in rectangular form having a stepped sarcophagus lid bearing a centered silver plaque with likely worn script. The body being inlaid with mother-of-pearl flowers and leaves, with silver piping. The interior having an ivory handled fitted lid with red velvet lining, fitted into the ivory decorated box. The base with bun feet. Type: Tea caddy Materials: Tortoise shell, ivory, silver Markings & Inscriptions: Unmarked Date: Mid 19th century Maker: Unmarked Dimensions: 5.75" W x 4.625" T x 3.5" D. Provenance: From an Elkins Park, Pennsylvania collection. Good condition, minor displaced piping, minor cracks to shell veneer to the rear.
