OPERA - PUCCINI Giacomo (1858 - 1924) - Autograph letter signed Autograph letter signed, dated “Milano 2. 12 [1922]” of the Italian composer. Addressed to Luigi Volpi: “…Ti mando un sacco di belle speranze per l’anno nuovo che poi si realizzeranno e vedrai che non ti passerà minga mal. Avrai banchetti e discorsi da fare e tante altre cose ancor più interessanti e belle…”. Luigi Volpi, from Lucca, was a long-time friend and correspondent of the Maestro. In 1922, Puccini spent the Christmas period in Milan, attending in person the performances of Pizzetti's 'Deborah and Jaele' on 23 December and his 'Manon Lescaut' on the 26th, also at La Scala. 1 p. Giacomo Puccini Autograph Musical Quotation Signed from 'La Boheme' AMQS on an off-white 5.25 x 3.5 album page, neatly signed and dated below in ink, "London [1]911, Giacomo Puccini." Puccini pens two bars from his opera La Bohème. In fine condition, with trimmed edges and a vertical fold. Based on a story by French writer Henri Murger set in 1840s Paris, La Boheme was Puccini's first major success—making him rich and famous—and arguably his greatest work. After its 1896 debut in Turin, the piece was quickly adopted into the international repertory.

Elvira Puccini Autograph Letter Signed on the Death of Giacomo Puccini Wife (1860-1930) of composer Giacomo Puccini. ALS in Italian, signed “Elvira,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 6.5 x 8.25, black-bordered mourning letterhead, December 12, 1924. Untranslated handwritten letter about her tragic days of sorrow following Puccini's death on November 29, 1924. Though their relationship was severely strained by the composer's infidelities—and her inaccurate accusation of an affair with Doria Manfredi—she offers sincere expressions of sorrow in the aftermath of his death. In very good to fine condition, with tears and paper loss to the borders, and tape repair to the central horizontal fold. Accompanied by a telegram signed by their son, Antonio, announcing the death of his father in Brussels.
