SCIENCE - POINSOT Louis (1777 - 1859) - Autograph letter signed Autograph letter signed, dated “ce mercredi” by the French mathematician and physicist. Poinsot was the inventor of geometrical mechanics, showing how a system of forces acting on a rigid body could be resolved into a single force and a couple. Addressed to Madame de Vindé: “…je veux, avant d’avoir l’honneur de vous revoir, vous bien remercier de l’intérêt que vous avez pris à la santé de votre frêle géometre. Je vais beaucoup mieux depuis deux jours…”. 1 p. In-8.
